SUMMARY:AFA’s Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship
DESCRIPTION:Do you know a teen who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s or dementia?\n\n\nAFA’s Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship provides educational funding to college-bound high school seniors who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. \nApplicants are asked to write an essay (1\,500 word maximum) or submit a video no more than 4 minutes long\, describing the impact of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia-related illness on themselves\, their families or their communities\, and what they have learned. \nThe grand prize winner receives $5\,000\, with additional prizes awarded for runners up. More than $428\,000 in college scholarships have been awarded since the program’s inception. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo qualify for AFA’s Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship\, the student:\n\nMust currently be a senior in high school.\nBe attending a U.S. college/university in the fall following graduation.\nMust live in the United States.\nMust be a U.S. citizen.\nSubmit the essay/video NO LATER than 5:00 pm ET on April 1\, 2024.\nProvide all requested supporting documents.\n\n\nSubmit an entry

SUMMARY:Strengthening the Dementia Capable Workforce: Dementia Training for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Providers
DESCRIPTION:On January 16\, 2024\, from 1-2 p.m. ET\, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar\, Strengthening the Dementia Capable Workforce: Dementia Training for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Providers.  A description of the webinar and registration information follows. \nAs the population of individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities ages\, so does the incidence of dementia. Communities need to be prepared to serve and support this population. Education is one of the foundational components to ensure person-centered care is provided and systems can meet the unique needs of persons living with intellectual and developmental disabilities and dementia. This webinar will explore educational programs utilized when training providers of aging and intellectual and developmental disability services\, and how Ohio began to build systems to support individuals\, families\, and providers within local communities.
