DESCRIPTION:On January 16\, 2024\, from 1-2 p.m. ET\, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar\, Strengthening the Dementia Capable Workforce: Dementia Training for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Providers.  A description of the webinar and registration information follows. \nAs the population of individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities ages\, so does the incidence of dementia. Communities need to be prepared to serve and support this population. Education is one of the foundational components to ensure person-centered care is provided and systems can meet the unique needs of persons living with intellectual and developmental disabilities and dementia. This webinar will explore educational programs utilized when training providers of aging and intellectual and developmental disability services\, and how Ohio began to build systems to support individuals\, families\, and providers within local communities. DESCRIPTION:Do you know a teen who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s or dementia?\n\n\nAFA’s Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship provides educational funding to college-bound high school seniors who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. \nApplicants are asked to write an essay (1\,500 word maximum) or submit a video no more than 4 minutes long\, describing the impact of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia-related illness on themselves\, their families or their communities\, and what they have learned. \nThe grand prize winner receives $5\,000\, with additional prizes awarded for runners up. DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday December 6\, from 12-1 pm\, NYU Work Life will be hosting a virtual conversation on Zoom. In continuation of our exploration into the impact of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias on families of color\, the second installment of the series will feature Professor Jasmine Travers from NYU’s Rory Meyers School of Nursing. Professor Travers will share her research on improving health outcomes and reducing health disparities in vulnerable older adult groups\, focusing on ways to address systemic racism in long-term care. \nIn our first session\, we heard from Professor Yvonne Latty and her podcast Alzheimer’s in Color\, which drew attention to healthcare inequities in communities of color. In our second session\, Professor Travers will share current policy suggestions aimed at improving health outcomes for vulnerable older adults and reducing disparities in long-term care. Professors Travers and Latty will discuss suggestions to make impactful change through the delivery of long-term services and supports.

DESCRIPTION:On November 1\, 2023\, from 3-4 p.m. ET\, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar\, Applying the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers to Dementia Programs.  A description of the webinar and registration information follows. \nThe 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers was developed to support caregivers of all ages\, regardless of where they live or their specific caregiving situation. The Strategy includes five overarching goals and 350 corresponding actions\, while not addressing specific populations of caregivers. DESCRIPTION:September 20th \n3:00 – 4:00 pm Eastern Time \nThe National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) is holding a webinar\, “Expanding Dementia Capability in Indian Country: A case example from Inter Tribal Council of Arizona\, Inc (ITCA).” \nLimited availability of dementia services in tribal communities has resulted in many community members voicing their concerns about the need for assistance and education. During this webinar\, participants will hear about how ITCA is currently implementing services and supports for people living with dementia and their caregivers through ACL’s Alzheimer’s Disease Program Initiative (ADPI). \nRepresentatives from the ITCA will describe how\, through their ADPI project\, they are empowering tribal staff and community members to become involved in providing dementia education and awareness in their communities. The Banner Alzheimer’s Institute\, ITCA’s partner organization\, will describe how they adapted the Walk with Me music program to create a CD with music from Native American artists. The presenters will explain how music can be used as an important connection for people living with dementia and their caregivers and share examples of how the “Walk with Me” CD is being used specifically in tribal communities to increase the quality of life for people living with dementia and their caregivers.
