SUMMARY:NADRC Webinar on Expanding Dementia Capability in Indian Country
DESCRIPTION:September 20th \n3:00 – 4:00 pm Eastern Time \nThe National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) is holding a webinar\, “Expanding Dementia Capability in Indian Country: A case example from Inter Tribal Council of Arizona\, Inc (ITCA).” \nLimited availability of dementia services in tribal communities has resulted in many community members voicing their concerns about the need for assistance and education. During this webinar\, participants will hear about how ITCA is currently implementing services and supports for people living with dementia and their caregivers through ACL’s Alzheimer’s Disease Program Initiative (ADPI). \nRepresentatives from the ITCA will describe how\, through their ADPI project\, they are empowering tribal staff and community members to become involved in providing dementia education and awareness in their communities. The Banner Alzheimer’s Institute\, ITCA’s partner organization\, will describe how they adapted the Walk with Me music program to create a CD with music from Native American artists. The presenters will explain how music can be used as an important connection for people living with dementia and their caregivers and share examples of how the “Walk with Me” CD is being used specifically in tribal communities to increase the quality of life for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

SUMMARY:NADRC Webinar on Building Aging- and Dementia-Friendly Systems
DESCRIPTION:Reposted courtesy National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center \nNADRC Webinar on Building Aging- and Dementia-Friendly Systems\nTuesday\, June 20\, 2023 | 3:00-4:00 PM ET \nJoin the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center for “It’s a Journey: Age Friendly and Dementia Capable Health Systems.” During this webinar\, participants will learn about the age-friendly and the dementia-friendly health system movements. These two national movements are working in tandem to improve the health and well-being of older adults living with dementia and their families. \nThe webinar will include examples from:\n• The John A. Hartford Foundation\, which has led the development of the Age-Friendly Health Systems movement with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and other partners using the 4Ms Framework: what Matters to the older adult\, Medication\, Mentation (including dementia)\, and Mobility.\n• MaineHealth\, whose work to become a dementia-capable health system occurred in the alignment with their efforts to become an Age-Friendly Health System. By aligning these initiatives with other system programming\, and working with many community partners\, there are sustainable and ongoing mechanisms to assess and support individuals in the community with dementia and their caregivers. \nNADRC webinars are free of charge and open to the public\, although pre-registration is required. The webinars are recorded and will be available for future viewing on the NADRC website. Closed captioning is available during the webinar and will be included in the recording. \nRegister here! \nContact NADRC-Webinars@rti.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Focus on Aging Webinar: Resilience in Dementia Caregiving
DESCRIPTION:Reposted courtesy Administration on Community Living (ACL) \nJoin the Focus on Aging: Federal Partners’ Webinar Series on June 5\, 2023\, for “Resilience in Dementia Caregiving.” This webinar series is a joint project of eight of the federal agencies that support the health and wellness of older adults. \nCaregivers provide indispensable support to those who live with dementia. They help to meet the medical and functional needs of these individuals\, while also maintaining commitments to work\, family\, community\, and their own health. Many caregivers provide support on an unpaid basis\, often over extended periods of time. Caregiving for a person living with dementia requires resilience — a capacity to adapt and persevere in the face of stress. In light of the growing prevalence of dementia in the United States and the necessity of dementia caregiving\, research on caregiver resilience is critical\, as are practical tools and strategies for building resilience among dementia caregivers. \n“Resilience in Dementia Caregiving” will feature the latest research on resilience in dementia caregiving and provide real-world insights from dementia caregivers who are helping others to learn about resilience. A captioned video recording of the webinar will be made available on the Focus On Aging: Federal Partners’ Webinar Series webpage shortly after the live broadcast. \nPresentations and Speakers: \n\n“Resilience in Dementia Caregiving: A National Research Perspective”\n\nPresented by Fawn Cothran\, Hunt Research Director\, National Alliance for Caregiving\n\n\n“From Despair to Resilience: The Four Lessons I Learned From Being My Mom’s Mom”\n\nPresented by Loretta Veney\, author and inspirational speaker\n\n\n“Developing a Behavioral Framework of Resilience in Dementia Care Partners”\n\nPresented by Yuanjin Zhou\, Assistant Professor\, Steve Hicks School of Social Work\, University of Texas at Austin\n\n\n“Bringing Light to Younger-Onset Dementia”\n\nPresented by Diana Shulla Cose\, Founding Executive Director\, Lorenzo’s House\n\n\n\nRegister here! \nContact Erin Long with any questions.

SUMMARY:NADRC - Community-Based Early Dementia Screening Leads to Support for Caregivers and People Living with Dementia
DESCRIPTION:On March 22\, 2023 from 1-2 p.m. ET\, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar\, Community-Based Early Dementia Screening Leads to Support for Caregivers and People Living with Dementia.  A description of the webinar and registration information follows. \nCommunity based organizations play a key role in conducting dementia screenings in the community. These screenings can lead to referrals for a comprehensive medical assessment to assist in diagnosing dementia. In this webinar\, participants will learn about two ACL Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiative grantees conducting dementia screenings in the community. The Chinese American Service League had success getting 596 of 800 people screened for dementia using the Mini-Cog. Some clients were linked to specialists for dementia diagnostic evaluation\, and others were provided with case management and other services to meet their needs. OMID\, through various outreach events and programs\, has been successful in signing up community members for early memory screenings\, using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) since August 2021. Once screening scores are calculated\, case managers work with community members whose scores signal early memory loss to educate them about OMID’s care coordination services and how they can assist them with securing additional testing and observation. These screenings are a pathway to dementia diagnosis. The benefits of these screenings cannot be underestimated even if the process to get a client to a medical assessment is lengthy. \nAdditional information about this webinar and the registration form can be found here: 3-22-23 NADRC Webinar-Community-Based Early Dementia Screening \nPlease note: \n\nNational Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) webinars are free of charge and open to the public.\nNADRC webinars are recorded and will be available for viewing at https://nadrc.acl.gov/.\nPre-registration is required to attend the live webinars.\nClosed captioning is available during the live event and is included in the recording for all NADRC webinars.\n\nIf you have questions\, please email NADRC-Webinars@rti.org. \nContent reposted courtesy of National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center
