SUMMARY:NADRC - Community-Based Early Dementia Screening Leads to Support for Caregivers and People Living with Dementia
DESCRIPTION:On March 22\, 2023 from 1-2 p.m. ET\, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar\, Community-Based Early Dementia Screening Leads to Support for Caregivers and People Living with Dementia.  A description of the webinar and registration information follows. \nCommunity based organizations play a key role in conducting dementia screenings in the community. These screenings can lead to referrals for a comprehensive medical assessment to assist in diagnosing dementia. In this webinar\, participants will learn about two ACL Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiative grantees conducting dementia screenings in the community. The Chinese American Service League had success getting 596 of 800 people screened for dementia using the Mini-Cog. Some clients were linked to specialists for dementia diagnostic evaluation\, and others were provided with case management and other services to meet their needs. OMID\, through various outreach events and programs\, has been successful in signing up community members for early memory screenings\, using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) since August 2021. Once screening scores are calculated\, case managers work with community members whose scores signal early memory loss to educate them about OMID’s care coordination services and how they can assist them with securing additional testing and observation. These screenings are a pathway to dementia diagnosis. The benefits of these screenings cannot be underestimated even if the process to get a client to a medical assessment is lengthy. \nAdditional information about this webinar and the registration form can be found here: 3-22-23 NADRC Webinar-Community-Based Early Dementia Screening \nPlease note: \n\nNational Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) webinars are free of charge and open to the public.\nNADRC webinars are recorded and will be available for viewing at https://nadrc.acl.gov/.\nPre-registration is required to attend the live webinars.\nClosed captioning is available during the live event and is included in the recording for all NADRC webinars.\n\nIf you have questions\, please email NADRC-Webinars@rti.org. \nContent reposted courtesy of National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center

DESCRIPTION:Registration is still open for the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center’s next webinar on February 23\, 2023 from 2-3 p.m. ET\, From Dementia to COVID-19: Maintaining Innovations using Data Driven Program Decision Making.  Additional information about the February 23rd  webinar and the registration link can be found here: 2-23-23 NADRC Webinar-From Dementia to COVID-19 \nInnovative dementia programs can be translated and expanded to provide benefits to wider populations and as a vehicle for sustainability. During the COVID-19 pandemic\, Hospital2Home (H2H)\, a highly successful dementia care transitions program\, was translated to provide discharge relief to over taxed hospitals and to prevent readmissions. A data driven approach resulted in a successful collaboration with the County and expansion of H2H to other difficult to discharge complex and vulnerable populations. This webinar will address how data can create a pathway for program expansion and sustainability. \nPlease note: \n\nNADRC webinars are free and open to the public.\nNADRC webinars are recorded and will be posted at https://nadrc.acl.gov/\nPre-registration is required to attend the live webinars\nClosed captioning is available during the live event and is included in the recording for all NADRC webinars.\n\nSpeaker bios can be found at the bottom of this registration page. \nGoals/Learning Objectives:\n1. Participants in this webinar will be provided with an overview about the Hospital2Home program and how it can be used for people living with dementia and their caregivers as well as people with other medical conditions\, including COVID-19.\n2. Participants in this webinar will learn how the Hospital2Home program was expanded during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.\n3. Participants in this webinar will learn about the importance of gathering and analyzing data about their programs to aid in determining aspects of the program to sustain. \n  \nPosted on behalf of National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center. SUMMARY:Dementia Equity Programs in the Hispanic and LGBTQI+ Communities
DESCRIPTION:*Presented by National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center* \nWe invite you to join the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center on December 13\, 2022 from 2-3 p.m. ET as we host the webinar\, Dementia Equity Programs in the Hispanic and LGBTQI+ Communities.  A description of the webinar and registration information follows. \nIn this webinar\, participants will learn about dementia programs that focus on serving the needs of the Hispanic and LGBTQI+ communities\, which historically have not received equitable care and support. \nSaul Juarez Aguilar will present information on various challenges to implementing new dementia initiatives in the Hispanic community and how collaboration continues to be an essential and powerful tool for promotion and sustainability. Understanding these challenges and efforts to serve the Hispanic community is essential as approximately 13% of Hispanics 65 or older have Alzheimer’s or another dementia\, and 85% of Hispanics say it is essential for Alzheimer’s and dementia care providers to understand their ethnic or racial background and experiences\, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Well-established health initiatives educate the Hispanic community about dementia; however\, failing to adapt or understand the Hispanic culture could lead to increased health disparities among Hispanic community members living with dementia. \nSarah Bahnson will discuss some of the challenges experienced by LGBTQI+ people living with dementia and ways to improve services to this community and will present key features of the Visibility Matters program.  Learning about these topics is important as LGBTQI+ people have a unique history that informs contemporary challenges and barriers to accessing aging care services\, including dementia care. Whether deciding if it is safe to be safe to be known as part of the LGBTQI+ community in a memory care facility or to their in-home care provider\, or needing additional protections with advanced directives\, aging care providers benefit from learning more about this community to better support person-first methodologies. \nAdditional information about this webinar and the registration form can be found here: 12-13-22 Dementia Equity Programs \nPlease note: \n\nNational Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) webinars are free of charge and open to the public.\nNADRC webinars are recorded and will be available for viewing at https://nadrc.acl.gov/.\nPre-registration is required to attend the live webinars.\nClosed captioning is available during the live event and is included in the recording for all NADRC webinars.\n\nIf you have questions\, please email NADRC-Webinars@rti.org.
