SUMMARY:Age-Related Cognition Changes: Early Detection and Intervention
DESCRIPTION:This Faith Community Nurses Network (FCNN) Symposium is geared toward a faith community nurse audience. Individuals outside the core audience are welcome\, but space may be limited on a first-come\, first-serve basis. \nThursday\, January 19 from 9:15 am to 1:00 pm (Central Time) via Zoom \n\nThe prevalence of dementia\, including Alzheimer’s Disease\, is rising as the older population grows. Early detection has become a national priority\, with the goals of preventing avoidable complications and optimizing overall health and wellbeing for affected individuals and their families. FCNs could play an important role in early detection\, assuring referral to appropriate resources\, and advocating for individuals and families. This symposium will provide information to enhance FCNs’ knowledge and skills in recognizing cognitive impairment and promoting good care.\n\nFCN Nursing Scope and Standards: Standard 1 – Collects pertinent data and information relative to the health care consumer’s health and/or situation.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n1. Explain the importance of early detection and education in early cognitive changes and the role of FCNs in this process.\n2. Distinguish between cognitive changes with normal aging and signs of dementia.\n3. Demonstrate the use the Mini-Cog© Quick Screening for Early Dementia and the MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment tools for the detection of clinically important cognitive decline.\n4. Identify strategies for connecting clients and caregivers with resources which provide education and support for cognitive impairment.\n5. Discuss the intentional care of the spirit for persons with cognitive impairment and their caregivers.\n\nKey Presenter:\nDr. Soo Borson\nFounder of the Mini-Cog© and Nationally Recognized Dementia Expert\nA Guest Panel will include faith community nurses\, and dementia care service providers.\n\nREGISTER HERE: https://hipaa.jotform.com/fcnntc/2023FCNNSymposiums

Pilot Studies will be funded for up to $175\,000 in direct costs for a\nmaximum of 12-months. For more information\, please see our Pilot Grants Program page. \nThe goal of the pilot projects is to generate the preliminary data necessary to design and\nconduct a future full-scale Stage IV effectiveness ePCT (based on the NIH Stage Model) funded\nthrough other grant mechanisms (NIH or other sources). \nThe IMPACT Collaboratory will consider all applications for pilot ePCTs that evaluate\nnon-pharmacological interventions to improve the care of people living with AD/ADRD and their\ncare partners. This grant cycle will prioritize applications for interventions in these populations\nthat aim to: \n\nImprove care through behavioral economics “nudge” interventions;\nReduce inequities in health care;\nReduce potentially inappropriate medications through de-prescribing; or\n Improve care in emergency departments.\n\nInformational Webinar \nAn optional informational webinar will be hosted to provide investigators with an overview of\napplication details and an opportunity to ask questions.
