SUMMARY:Living Longer: The Increasing Need for Dementia Care and Support for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:On February 11\, 2026\, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET\, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar\, Living Longer: The Increasing Need for Dementia Care and Support for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. A description of the webinar and registration information follows. \nAdvances in medicine\, technology\, and community living are extending the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).  As a result\, individuals with IDD are now at greater risk of developing dementia.  Dementia can present differently in people with IDD\, and supporting individuals with both conditions often requires specialized knowledge and skills from healthcare professionals and aging and disability service providers. \nThis webinar will provide participants with an overview of IDD and dementia including prevalence\, signs and symptoms\, and assessing if a person with IDD may be developing dementia. Participants will also learn practical considerations for supporting people with IDD and dementia with an emphasis on enhancing workforce training. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, February 25\, 2026 | 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET\n\nThe Administration for Community Living (ACL) and Administration for Strategic Preparedness & Response (ASPR) invite you to join us on Wednesday\, February 25\, 2026\, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET for “Coordination During Emergencies and Disasters for the Aging Network.” This training event is designed to promote strong Older Americans Act (OAA) stewardship practices and support aging network entities as they implement OAA requirements. \nThe OAA contains provisions pertaining to planning for emergencies and disasters\, response\, and recovery. Under the OAA\, there are specific considerations for state units on aging\, area agencies on aging\, direct service providers\, LTC ombudsman programs\, Title VI grantees\, and tribal organizations in serving older adults\, elders\, and family caregivers. This webinar will cover:\n\nResources and technical assistance tools for grantees and subgrantees\nFlexibilities available during a major disaster declaration\nKey ASPR resources to support emergency preparedness and response efforts including the Office of Medical Reserve Corps and ASPR TRACIE\n\nASL and CART services will be provided.
